Project 2024
Spring and Summer
Concerned about the social problems we are facing such as the isolation in which children and the elderly live and the lack of living skills our younger generation have.
We are proposing an intergenerational project where children are brought to the countryside to work in communities with senior mentors.
The Project will be carried out in stages
Stage 1- The Builders
At this stage, children who have an interest and talents to develop in construction will be received, as well as mentors who will guide them on how to build a Lanai and a brick oven.
Stage 2- The Farmers
At this stage, children interested in learning how to plant produce with experienced mentors with the goal of producing a harvest shared by all or sold to the public.
Stage 3- The Community
At this stage, children interested in learning different activities necessary for the maintenance of a community will be invited to share their skills. Such as machine sewing, knitting, baking, and cooking from scratch among others.
Goals:
- Teach our youth life skills
- Provide the opportunity for intergenerational coexistence to nurture both generations
- Teach the importance of teamwork
- Develop social skills
- Find an “Ikigai” (a purpose to wake up every morning)
- Get the benefits of being outdoors and in contact with nature
- Passing down generational wisdom and knowledge

About
This is project is in the developmental stage and will be available on a farm located close to the town of Hillsboro, Ohio. A short distance from the south shore of Rocky Fork Lake. Our goal is to provide a life skills camp to children at an affordable price. During the next 6 months we will compile a list of volunteers willing to lend their particular skillset which will allow us to develop an exciting summer camp curriculum for the kids.
This program is intended to be educational and fun for both children and adults. Far too often basic living skills are overlooked or not offered to our younger children. This summer camp will provide an opportunity for adults to give back to our younger generation creating an enriching program for everyone involved.
By January 2024 we will have a better idea of the cost for each child as the goal is to make it affordable to as many children as possible. An example of the activities we plan to offer are yoga, meditation, basic agriculture, baking, but we are excited to see what other life skills can be shared. The more motivated volunteers we get the more enriching our camp will be.
